Circa 1720 Edinburgh Style Basket Hilted
Scottish Backsword, sold
In good condition, an Edinburgh style basket hilted backsword,
An excellent example, guaranteed authentic, with pine tree style
(rather than heart) decoration to the side bars, this so called
"Edinburgh style" basket hilt has a plain (no markings)
Scottish or possibly even English made blade.
The 31 3/8 inch blade is aged but very sound, and is firm in the
hilt. The steel hilt likewise aged but with very little bending
to the bars. The now black painted wooden grip we believe to be
original, but now without the original leather or fishskin cover
and twisted grip wire bindings.
A superb, well above average example of a pre-Culloden sword. Please
quote item reference G61 (947). Full sized / additional photos available
