1895P Thurkle Made Victorian British Infantry
Officer's Sword, Sold |
A very good 1895P Victorian British infantry officer's sword by
quality maker Thurkle.
In overall good condition, this scarce 1895 pattern was replaced
in 1897 by a near identical 1897 pattern, the only difference being
the 1895P has no turned down inner hilt (done to prevent uniform
wear and discomfort). Most 1895P's were either physically converted
(had the inside hilt turned down) or rehilted. This sword has been
replated at some stage, some time ago and well done.
The 32 1/2 inch blade is in very good condition, a couple of rust
spots to the spine but nothing much, the etching still fairly clear
despite having been replated. The blade is firm in the hilt, the
hilt / guard with VR Victorian Royal Cypher to the cartouche is
in very good condition, the inside of the bowl a little aged. The
black fishskin grip and twisted grip wire bindings are in very good
condition. The plated scabbard has several rust / plating blister
spots though is very sound (may be worth having it replated). The
sword sheathes and draws well, a little stiff to the end. A very,
very good sword Further / full sized images upon request. Please
