1845/54 Pattern Victorian British Rifle Regiment
Officer's Sword, sold |
In good overall condition, an 1845/54 pattern British rifle regiment
officer's sword with scabbard.

The blade is good, the guard tarnished and with some light rust
speckling, this sword would clean up very well with a little effort.

The 33 inch blade is nicely etched and with only minimal wear /
patina for its age. Marked to the ricasso, Gardiner & Co, 120
Queen Victoria Street, London E.C.", the blade is firm in the
hilt. The steel hilt / guard has tarnish and light rusting (preserving
oil duly applied) and should clean up very nicely if desired with
a little time and effort. The fishskin grip is a little worn and
aged, but still good and sound. The twisted grip wire bindings generally
good but with some of the secondary strands missing. The sword sheaths
and draws very well into its steel scabbard; this has a couple of
kinks and a pleasant speckled patina.
A genuinely nice sword and very good value. Further / full sized
pictures available upon request. Please quote item reference number
E26 (783).
