Hawkes & Co ERII British Grenadier Guards
Officer's Sword, Sold |
An exceptional Queen Elizabeth 2nd British Grenadier Guards officer's
sword, by Hawkes / Wilkinson.

Every collector, serving Grenadier Guards officer and family member
thereof should be biting our hand off to get this absolutely stunning
ERII British Grenadier Guards officer's sword, marked to Hawkes
& Co of 1 Savile Row West London, but of course made for them
by Wilkinson Sword, this pre-1980 masterpiece has battle honours,
Royal Cyphers and Grenadier badge plus motto along 3/4 of its blade,
both sides. It is in virtually as new condition and easily of parade
ground condition. We believe it is impossible to buy a better quality
sword for a serving officer or collection.

The lovely 32 1/2 inch blade looks new apart from the tiniest and
lightest of scuff marks, even these are away from the etched area,
which is 3/4 of the length of the blade. Battle honours from Tangier
1680, through Waterloo, the Crimean War, the Boer War, World War
1 and to the Gothic Line, World War Two. Blade is firm in the hilt,
the hilt in equally very good condition; there is a break to one
of the flames of the grenade but this is slight, and only visible
inside the hilt; other sellers would simply have put a spot of silver
paint there to cover it up and said nothing; that is all it would
take to hide the fact.
The black faux fishskin grip and its twisted grip wire bindings
look virtually like new. The plated steel scabbard is also in exceptionally
good condition. The sword sheathes and draws a little loose but
not much; tightening the scabbard's throat screws may correct this.
You can not buy a sword of this quality new any more. If you could
it would be almost certainly be double our asking price of £?
(too late, now sold). Further / full sized images available upon
request. Please quote item reference E11 (794).
