1827P Pipe Back Victorian British Royal Navy
Officer's Sword, sold |
In overall good condition, an early Victorian British Royal naval
officer's pipeback sword.

A lovely condition sword with old style suspension mountings scabbard.
Etching still clearly visible to the blade. The blade with nicks
to the cutting edge. These nicks are clearly sword to sword damage.
Are they period or later? There is no way to tell.

The 29 3/4 inch blade reflecting a time when naval sword blades
reflected the close quarters realities of wielding a sword on deck.
The blade has been over-cleaned but not as much as most of this
era and is in good shape with the etching still fairly clear. Firm
in the hilt, the hilt is in very good shape for its age, the fishskin
grip especially good; the twisted grip wire bindings equally so.
The sword sheathes and draws well into its leather and gilt metal
mount scabbard. The hilts folding guard is good and strong and works.
A lovely example. Further / large images available upon request.
