WW1 / George 5th British Royal Artillery
Officer's Sword (sold) |
In good to very good condition condition, a fine Hawksworth of
Sheffield made WW1 / George V British artillery officer's sword.

For us this sword stands heads above other WW1 era swords because
of the fine and slightly bespoke etching to the blade; the sword
stands out for its quality during a time when quantity too often
took precedence over quality.

The 32 1/2 inch blade is nicely grey etched, the style quite unique
from other swords of the period, definitely more stylish. The blade
is firm in the hilt, the hilt's main bar has a little ding to it,
probably period, nothing that detracts much if at all (we only just
noticed it). The fishskin grip is in very good order, as are the
twisted grip wire bindings. The field leather scabbard a little
aged by still good, the sword sheathes and draws well. Includes
original sword knot. A very nice sword indeed. Further / large images
available upon request. Please quote item reference number C57 (636).
