1827 Pattern Victorian British Rifle Brigade
Officer's Sword (sold) |
In very good condition, a scarce Rifle Brigade (as opposed to
Rifle Regiment) officer's sword.
This is a scarce Rifle "Brigade" sword made rarer by
its superb condition. Apart from some tiny patina spots and the
odd scuff / wear, you could almost believe the sword is new, which
it most certainly is not.
The 32 1/2 inch blade is exceptionally well etched and the etching
is as crisp as when it was first made, except for some slight wear
around the ricasso where it holds into the scabbard, as you should
expect. There are a few spots of patina but nothing much and typically
away from the etched areas. The blade is firm in the hilt, the guard
is in superb order, the fishskin grip with one small rubbed area
but otherwise pristine, the twisted grip wire bindings equally impressive.
The scabbard is very good. The sword sheathes and draws very tightly
as if it were new; could use a little grease perhaps; I would leave
as is.
A well, well above average example and well priced. Further / large
images available upon request. Our item reference number B93 (598)
