1803 Pattern British infantry officer's sword
/ sabre, sold |
In good order, a JJ Runkel bladed British 1803 pattern infantry
officer's sword / sabre, as used throughout the Napoleonic wars.

With traces of an 1801-1816 British royal coat of arms and the
fact the blade is by JJ Runkel, this 1803P probably was around for
most of Britain's Napoleonic Wars with France. Yes, the etching
is faded, the blue and gilt all gone, but the sword is still sturdy
and a pleasure to hold.

The 32 inch curved blade is generally in good order, some light
pitting to one side near the point, and is firm in the hilt. The
hilt has lost its gilt, but is complete. The fishskin grip is very
good except for one small section loss on one side. These swords
are now very difficult to source, so a good investment indeed. Further

reference number B65 (567).
