WW1 Ayrshire Yeomanry Cavalry Officers Wilkinson
Sword, Sold |
In very good condition, a 1912 pattern British cavalry officer's
sword for a named officer (Walter Kerr Neilson) in the Ayrshire
(Earl of Carrick's Own) Yeomanry, includes original all weather
bag.

Serial number 50750 for 1915. Initials "W. K. N." to
outside hood of all weather bag and etched to blade for Walter Kerr
Neilson (confirmed by letter to beneficiary). Walter
Kerr Neilson survived the war and died in 1952. The beneficiary
wrote his initials on various leather inners (can be removed - we
have left for provenance).

The 35 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt.
The plated steel bowl hilt also very good, as are the grip and grip
wire bindings. We have nourished the leather components with leather
balsam which are all original and good, if a little aged (they were
dry). The sword sheaths and draws well. The hood of the all weather
bag is detached and the fastening strap gone.
What a beauty of a sword, well above average and with full provenance
to do plenty of research. Worth every bit of £?. Please quote
item reference AE12 (0667). Further / full sized pictures available
upon request.
