WW1 British RN Sub-Lieutenants Sword &
All-Weather Bag, Sold |
In good condition, a George V / WW1 British Royal Navy Sub-Lieutenants
Sword with All-Weather Bag.

Etched to retailer (naval tailor) "Pote & Son, 46 Fore
Street, Devonport", Pote and Sons are recorded at that address
in 1914. What really makes this sword, apart from being the scarcer
junior officer's pattern with round pommel and black fishskin grip,
is the all weather cover. Unlike most (thin leather, prone to age
/ the elements), this one is good old fashioned waterproofed hessian;
designed to actually be all-weather.

The 31 1/2 inch blade is in overall good condition but some rubbing
of the etching and also a few patina / inert rust spots. Blade firm
in the hilt. The hilt in good shape, the folding guard section works
well. The fishskin grip and twisted grip wire bindings in good condition.
The scabbard good for age; the locking pin locates within the folding
guard section as it should. The all weather bag in aged but good
condition.
A lovely, scarce sword in good condition. We under priced this
one! £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference
AD80 (0588). Further / full sized images available upon request.
