1715/1786M Waterloo Prussian Infantry Sword, Sold

In very good condition, a 1715/1786M Napoleonic Prussian Infantry Sword of the 28th Infantry (Landwehr) Regiment ("von Goeben" Infantry Regiment) who were at Waterloo.

Engraved "3: No. 92. 28. L. R." to the knucklebow for "3rd Battalion of the 28th Landwehr Regiment, weapon 92". The 3rd Battalion of that regiment were fusilier infantrymen commanded by Major Baron Quadt von Hictenbrock I as part of the 2nd Brigade of the Prussian I Corps at Waterloo. The blade is etched with the royal cypher of Frederick William III. The guard markings "1 (reversed) Y. 1.6" are the royal decree (order) number. There is no visible maker's mark as these would be on the tang, not the blade.

The 25 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt with 1786M half grooved, half smooth grip is also very good. The original leather scabbard with age but sound. The sword sheathes and draws well. This model of sword was only replaced in 1816, after the Battle of Waterloo, so this sword was at that battle.
