1796 Pattern British Light Cavalry Trooper's Sabre / Sword, Gill, Sold

In good condition, a Napoleonic 1796 Pattern British Light Cavalry Trooper's Sabre / Sword by Gill.

Stamped "GILL" to the spine, this 1796P has a crown over 1 inspection / view mark, so it was issued to a trooper in a regular (not yeomanry) cavalry regiment. No regimental markings but not many were during the Napoleonic Wars (including the Battle of Waterloo).

The 32 1/2 inch blade is in very good condition for its age; some streaking stains, the very tip with some pitting one side, firm in the hilt. The stirrup hilt / guard in very good shape, with some age / patina. The original leather covered grip with small wear / small missing patches and worm holes, but really above average. The heavy steel scabbard in very good condition for its age; some rust pitting here and there but not too much. The sword actually sheathes and draws very well (most are loose, but not this one), so the wooden lining slats are still there and in place.
