WW2 KNIL Klewang Korps Marechaussee, sold |
A rare WW2 KNIL Klewang Korps Marechaussee van Aceh and Onderhoorigheden,
in very good condition.

It is rare enough to get a KNIL (Koninklijk Nederlands Indisch
Leger) Klewang that has not been captured / modified by the Japanese,
but this is an even rarer Korps Marechaussee van Aceh and Onderhoorigheden
klewang (the Marechaussee are gendarmerie). The Royal Marechaussee
klewangs have the black ribbed wooden grips (as opposed to the normal
smooth wooden grips). See
last illustration here of 1930's KNIL Marechaussee. The KNIL
Marechaussee were a crack commando brigade whose fighting tactics
were legendary (used by the Boers against the British in South Africa
with deadly effect).

The 60 cm blade in overall good condition, some rust pitting around
the forte marked "Hembrug" (so made by Artillerie Inrichtingen
in Hembrug district of Zaanstad, the Netherlands), the tip with
a little bending (would probably hammer straights). Blade firm in
hilt. The hilt / guard good but with some paint; similar story with
the grip. The leather scabbard in good order. The sword sheathes
and draws well.
You are unlikely to find another. Yours for £? (too late,
