In worn condition, a rare Boer War Victorian South African Duke of Edinburgh's Own Rifles Officer's Sword.

Boer War Victorian South African Duke of Edinburgh's Own Rifles Officer's Swordimage AD02 1

Sold Item Notice

If you want a 100% served throughout the Boer War sword (not some maybe was there, mostly likely not, Boer War era sword), this one is for you! The etching is very, very feint now, but still discernable is the name "Duke of Edinburgh's Own Rifles", a British South African regiment that was very successful during that war. No doubt hence the wear and tear and bent drag end of the scabbard; this sword was worn in battlefield conditions, not left safely at home.

The 31 3/4 inch period sharpened blade is worn and has some pitting but is sound and firm in the hilt. The hilt is overall good but with patina. The grip is worn and there are some broken / missing grip wire strands. The steel scabbard is worn, has some pitting and is bent towards the chape, though the sword sheathes and draws well (the blade is not bent).

A rare regimental sword; a bargain at £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference AD02 (0397). Further / full sized images available upon request.
