WW1 British GRI Rifle Officer's Sword, Knot,
Scabbard & Belts, Sold |
In good condition, a very good WW1 British GRI Rifle Officer's
Sword, Knot, Scabbard & Belts.

No maker's / retailer's name etched to the ricasso, but the "H"
proved brass insert is most likely to indicate this sword was made
by Hawkes, a renowned maker. Etched "GRI" for Georgius
Rex Imperator (showing the officer was commissioned into an Indian
regiment).

The 32 15/16 inch blade is in good condition; the etching feint
but I believe it was always feint (some blades were made this way,
though I do not know why). Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard
with rust spots, not too many. THe hilt has a little bending (not
much) to the inner lip, probably from wear. The fishskin grip and
twisted grip wire in very good condition. The scabbard with some
wear, especially around the chape. The leather component of the
belts, knot, scabbard is good. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Great to get everything, and original. A steal at £? (too
late, now sold). Please quote item reference AC61 (0324). Further
/ full sized images available upon request.
