An XIII French Cuirassier Heavy Cavalry Trooper's
In very good condition, an authentic Klingenthal made An XIII
French Cuirassier Heavy Cavalry Trooper's Sword, blade dated 1814.
The blade is dated September 1814, though the hilt markings shows
it remained in French service after the 100 Days War (Waterloo).
Those An XIII's that did not become war trophies, were often re-hilted
into the new 1816M hilts (which had a forward facing lip border
to the guard); very few remained in service with original An XIII
hilts like this one, so it is quite a rare beast.
The 37 1/4 inch spear pointed blade is in very good condition and
firm in the hilt. The hilt also very good. The leather grip looks
original but the twisted grip wire is probably a more recent replacement.
The browned steel scabbard is in exceptionally good condition; absolutely
no markings whatsoever. The sword sheathes and draws very well.
The sword obviously was in service under Napoleon and apparently
is one of the few that survived in French service unmodified.
