1821 Patt Hawkes Victorian British Light
Cavalry Officer's Sword, sold |
In very good condition, a 1821 Patt Hawkes Victorian British light
cavalry officer's sword.

Marked to the ricasso; "Hawkes & Co. London Manufacturer
TO THE QUEEN" which says it all about the quality of the sword.

The 35 5/8 inch blade is in generally very good condition, the
supreme grey etching is still very clear generally, some patina
spots but not too many, and firm in the hilt. The hilt in good condition,
once period blackened (now mostly gone). The fishskin grip is generally
very good but with wear and a little faded. The grip wire bindings
are generally good but some lesser strands a little astray. The
period blackened scabbard with some rust patches; not too much /
many. The sword sheathes and draws a little loosely.
A really lovely sword. Bargain price, just £? (too late,
now sold). Please quote item reference AC33 (0234). Full sized /
additional photos available upon request.
