Victorian British Light Cavalry Officer's Mameluke Sabre, Sold

In overall very good condition, a rare Victorian British light cavalry officer's mameluke.

One side of this Victorian British light cavalry officer's mameluke is very good, the other side has a cracked and missing ivory section, and a missing grip rosette. So, a great display piece if showing one side (the other side is still very good, especially the blade), or a perfect restoration job for a competent amateur / collector (mold and cast a replacement rosette, repair the grip with ivory resin).

The 30 3/4 inch blade is in very good condition, the fine grey etching still very clear; etched to cutler "J B Johnstone, Sackville St, London" to the ricasso. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt overall very good, the ivory grip sections in very good order (very little age cracking) except for aforesaid missing piece one side (same side as missing grip decoration rosette). Scabbard with age and dings and kink and a small hole; the scabbard is of light steel (light rust pitting throughout) with brass (now dark patina tarnished) fittings. The sword sheathes and draws well.
