ERII Eickhorn Solingen made Royal Naval Officer's
Sword, Sold |
In very good condition, the ERII Eickhorn Solingen made Royal
Naval Sword of Captain J A G Evans.

John
Alan Godfrey Evans initially served on the battleship HMS Nelson
during WW2, he went on to be a submarine officer serving on several
subs, and was eventually promoted to Captain proper in 1966. We
believe he bought this sword in 1960 when he was promoted to Commander;
he then went on to become Captain in 1966. John Alan Godfrey Evans
made midshipman rank in 1941 when he was presented a dirk in person
by King George VI (that
dirk can be found here). Sword in pretty much parade ground
condition.

The 31 inch grey etched blade is in very good condition, a little
wear / scuffing but really not very much. Sword blade firm in the
hilt, which has a reasonable level of gilt remaining. The white
fishskin grip in good condition, some marks / stains but not too
much; the twisted grip wire bindings in good order. The leather
and brass fitting scabbard is in good order but there is very little
gilt remaining on the fittings. The sword knot is a little aged
but good. The sword sheathes and draws well. The folding guard locking
pin system works well.
Nice to get such a great condition sword with clear provenance
to a WW2 officer. A great buy for only £? (too latee, now
sold) . Please quote item reference number AB86 (0142). Further
/ full sized pictures available upon request.
