Napoleonic French An XIII Light Cavalry Officer's
Sabre, Sold |
A Napoleonic French An XIII light cavalry officer's sabre in good
condition.

A good French Napoleonic light cavalry officer's sword / sabre.
No fourbisseur (maker / cutler) marks that we can see, so most likely
the sword is one of the many quality edged weapons made in then
Imperial French controlled Solingen. Pretty much all the background
blue etch has gone, but quite a bit of the gilt blade etching remains.

The 33 1/4 inch blade is in overall good condition and period professionally
sharpened (very well done). Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard
in good shape, the leather bound grip is very good, though the leather
has shrunk a little (so a small gap exists between a leather edge
and the backpiece); the twisted grip wire bindings are good. The
steel with brass / gilt suspension rings is good, with some light
pitting. The sword knot is believed to be original and is in good
order, though aged. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A great example at a good price; yours for £? (too late,
