British ERII 6th Gurkha Rifles Officer's
Wilkinson Sword, sold |
In very good condition, a scarce British ERII 6th Gurkha Rifles
Officer's Wilkinson Sword.

With serial number 71748 for 1953 to the blade's spine, and original
owner's initials "D. F. N." on the blade and all weather
/ carry bag, so it is very probable that the original officer's
name can be researched.

The 32 1/3 inch blade is well grey etched with rare "ERI"
(Elizabeth Regina Imperatrix) cypher over crossed kukris, EIIR and
more. The ricasso is etched "By appointment to his late Majesty
King George VI, Wilkinson Sword Co. Ltd. London". Blade firm
in hilt. The hilt / guard generally very good (a good metal finishing
polish such as Simichrome would do wonder), the grip a little faded
and some fraying / wear under the backpiece but also good; around
the ferrule there is a little rust, but not much. Black sword knot
good. Both scabbards are generally good; the plated steel scabbard
has freckling, a kind of staining, which would probably also come
right our with Simichrome. The roeskin inner bag stained and aged
but complete and sound. The all weather / carry bag is a little
aged but good.
It is a nice thing to have a scarce sword in such good condition
and with both scabbards, etc. Don't wait too long on this one; £?
(too late, now sold). Please quote item reference number AB57 (0120).
