Shinto Wakizashi, Kikumon, Izu no Kami Fujiwara Kinmichi, sold

In very good condition, an early Shinto (Kanbun Era - mid to late 17C) Wakizashi, with emperor's Kikumon, signed Izu no Kami Fujiwara Kinmichi.

(Izu no Kami) Fujiwara Kinmichi was second generation from the famous Kinmichi Mishina School Smiths, younger brother of the smith that signed Iga (no) Kami Fujiwara Kinmichi, prolific from 1661 to 1680. These smiths were some of the very few awarded the honour of the kikumon, and to use it on their blades.

The 22 1/8 inch blade (Nagasa - measured from habaki inset to point) is in very good condition, in a high polish. The blade has some ware and a light scuff (shows as black in additional photos, but is not black). In shira-saya mounts.

OK, Izu no Kami Fujiwara Kinmichi is not the highest rated of the the Mishina school smiths, but is related to them and cleanly had the emperor's approval. Just try and buy another for under £5000.
