1821 Patt British Light Cavalry Sword / Sabre, Sold

In very good condition for its age, an unmarked 1821 Patt British Light Cavalry Sword / Sabre.

We could almost guarantee this sword is Mole / Birmingham made, not a Prussian copy / version, due to the construction. But it has absolutely no markings, not even a "B" bend test mark to the spine, which indicates the manufacturer not only wanted to withhold their name from it, but also that it is English made. It is therefore totally unlikely this sword saw service with any British cavalryman. This anonymous sword manufacture happened quite a lot when companies like Mole of Birmingham made swords for the Confederate States in the US Civil War. This one has a couple of period nicks to the last upper section of the blade, indicating some battle use. So, who knows.

The completely plain 35 1/4 blade is in good condition except for a couple of nicks and some light pitting towards the point, and firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard is in good shape but with a deep patina and light periodic pitting. The leather grip is sound but with some wear. The steel scabbard has some medium pitting and totally brown patina. The sword sheathes and draws loosely (the wooden lining slats have gone).
