British ERII General Staff Officer's Mameluke
by Wilkinson Sword, sold |
In good condition, a British ERII Army General Staff Officer's
Mameluke by Wilkinson Sword.

Serial number 76669 for 1955, the blade is etched to ERII (Queen
Elizabeth 2nd) but the ricasso still shows the Wilkinson appointment
to her father; "By Appointment To His Late Majesty King George
VI". This is due to Wilkinson not then yet having secured the
royal appointment to the queen. The sword has age, but if the scabbard
were replated and a good metal polish used on the blade (or the
blade could be replated but we would not recommend this), this mameluke
would still be viable as a serving senior officer's dress sword.

The 32 1/2 inch blade is in overall good condition (some scuffing
and etching wear, but not too much) and firm in the hilt. The hilt
is overall good. The ivorine grip scales in very good condition
and with the gilt rosettes still present. The sword knot is good.
The plated steel scabbard has crazing (where moisture has compromised
the plating) and a few spots of rust one side, but is overall in
good condition. The sword sheathes and draws well.
A rare, rare, rare sword and only £? (too late, now sold).
