Waterloo French Cuirassier Sword, Klingenthal, 1815

Sales enquiries

First, we guarantee this is an authentic Napoleonic French Cuirassier sword made in April 1815 at Klingenthal (the primary Napoleonic French sword manufacturing factory). It is not a reproduction (even so called experts get fooled by repros, but we do not; we have more experience of these swords than anyone else in the market).

Check for yourself, the poinçons are 100% correct for the date inscription on the blade's spine, April 1815 (just before Waterloo).

Second, the sword is 99.99% a Waterloo battle trophy bought back by a British soldier or other related person, as a) we bought the sword in the UK (it had clearly been in the person's loft for many years due to the tarnish on the hilt, which we mostly removed) and b) it does not have any post-1815 poinçons (inspection marks) which it would have if the sword had remained in French military service (in fact, most that stayed in French service were given 1816 model guards / hilts).

What is also nice, is that the rack / serial number on the hilt and on the scabbard match; most swords have mismatched scabbard rack numbers.

The 37 1/2 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard is in good condition, some scuffs to the outside guard bar, some tarnish remaining (we left this deliberately on the inside of the hilt / guard to show age), but no real apparent damage. The grips is good with its original leather (some worm holes) plus original twisted grip wire. The heavy steel scabbard has some rust patches (we have treated these) but it very sound and the sword sheathes and draws well.

One of if not the most functional, deadly and beautiful swords in the world, plus a Waterloo war trophy rolled in, all for only £xxxx (too late, now sold - we will divulge the original sales price for a small fee); come on, it will not be on our site for long!
