1796P Napoleonic / Waterloo era Scottish Basket Hilted Broadswordimage AA17 1

Sold Item Notice

This sword is well above average condition as the gilt on brass hilts of these swords are comparatively frail and most often found with significant damage. Used by Highland Scottish infantry officers throughout the Napoleonic wars, including at Waterloo, this one has a small period nick to the blade which suggests field use.

The typically plain 33 7/8 inch Runkel style blade has some light rust pitting towards the pont but nothing much. The blade has a little movement in the hilt, bit not a huge amount. The brass hilt retains some of its original fine gilt, and is amazingly virtually damage free, just slight bending here and there. The original leather grip and twisted grip wire bindings are in very good condition for its age.

Well, well above average example, so well worth £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference number AA17 (0007). Full sized / additional photos available upon request.
