Tenmei Edo Period Wakizashi, signed Ashu
Ju Aki Kanefusa (sold) |
Dated February 1787. a Tenmei Edo era Kanefusa wakizashi in very
good condition and excellent furniture.

This is a superb looking wakizashi. Although the hamon is only
just visible, the blade is in extremely good order (some small fukure
one side, no nicks to the cutting edge) and set off beautifully
by the high quality fuchi and kashira hilt fittings, plus well made
tsuba and tailored seppa. The original saya / scabbard was crushed
(fortunately while the blade was drawn), so I had made a standard
simple black saya to protect the blade, etc.

The 19 5/8 inch blade is in very good condition, no signs of crude
cleaning, no real flaws apart from tiny speckling effect and a small
amount of fukure. The tsuka / hilt is equally very good, the same
rayskin has split one side as to be expected. The furniture is very
well made. The fuchi signed. A great sword and surely a terrific
investment. Please quote reference number A10 (589). Full sized
/ further images available upon request.
