They really do not get much rare or nicer than this. An authentic 1922-37 Irish Free State / Óglaigh na hÉireann officer's sword with all the bits and in very good condition.

OGLAIGH NA HÉIREANN FF

The 33 inch blade is in very good order, a little patina here and there but not much. Well etched with harps, Celtic motives and OGLAIGH NA HÉIREANN FF crests on both sides, and firm in the hilt. The brass basket hilt in very good order too, the fishskin grip very good, the twisted grip wire bindings also very good (one tiny strand astray a little). The field leather scabbard, frog, belts and sword knot all very good; the sword knot simply needs a button sewn on; it is not broken. The sword sheathes well.

One of these (I believe in not so good condition as this one) sold at Whytes Auctions Dublin in 2008 for €3000, and I have not seen one come to the market since. So it is well worth the price tag I had on this fine sword; Grab it quick, when this one is gone I really do not expect to see another at anywhere near as low a price. Further / full sized pictures available upon request. Item reference number 640.
