1805 Pattern Georgian Blue & Gilt British
Naval Officer's Sword (sold) |
Very good condition Georgian British navy officer's sword by Salter,
the same maker as for Lord Horatio Nelson.

Stunning and exceptionally rare 1805 pattern British naval officer's
sword made by Salter. Recently refurbished by Crisps & Sons
of England. Therefore in overall very good condition except for
the blade which has aged / rusted over the years (now stabilized)
for which there is no refurbishment available. Though, as can be
seem, the blade retains a good amount of its original blue and gilt
etching.

The 32 inch blade in good order though has lost some etching and
suffered a little from rusting. It is firm on the hilt; a little
movement, hardly noticeable. The ivory and gilt wire grip in stunning
order, as the hilt itself having been cleaned and re-gilted. The
scabbard is a replacement though with the original fittings; it
is therefore in exceptionally good order. These swords seldom come
onto the market and I have endured the 8 month wait for Crisps to
refurbish it. As Crisp's trade is a dying art, the ability to get
a sword refurbished to such a high standard is numbered in days.
The refurbishment alone cost me £871.79; that does not include
what it cost me to buy the sword in the first place. Further / full
sized images available upon request. My item reference number is
322 (55).
