1821 Patt (strict / true) British Officer's
Heavy Cavalry Sabre (Sold) |
A true (36 inch blade) 1821 P, good condition, Victorian British
heavy cavalry officer's sword / sabre.

Very rare true 1821 Pattern British heavy cavalry officer's sword
with the full 36 inch blade as used by Victorian heavy cavalry (most
so called 1821 Pattern heavy cavalry swords are actually 1896 Pattern
variants with shorter blades used by light cavalry).

Made by Johnstones of Sackville Street London and Dawson Street
Dublin, this fact dates the sword to between 1861 and 1897. Although
there is some wear, the sword itself is generally in excellent condition
with relatively clear etching to the blade and very little in the
way of blemishes / patina, although the scabbard has multiple dents,
etc. The blade is firm in the hilt, the fishskin and ring bindings
all good. Due to the scarce nature of true / strict 1821 pattern
sabres and the fact this one is in such good condition. Further
pictures available upon request.
