1786 Pattern British Infantry Officer's Spadroon
Sword, Sold |
Good condition English 1786 Pattern Spadroon, British Infantry
Officer's Sword. For a 5 ball spadroon, please see the navy swords
section.

The hilt of this 1786 Pattern British army officer's spadroon sword
is in exceptionally good condition, the blade in good condition;
I considered whether the hilt therefore might be a replacement,
but I do not think so and even it if were, it has been done to exacting
standards. The checkered ivory grip is undamaged (small hairline
ivory cracks do exist along a couple of corners, as to be expected)
and very clean, the gilt work sparkles almost like new. The 32.5
inch JJ Runkel Solingen marked (to the spine) blade still bears
a lot of etching, although the blue and gilt has gone, and is still
firm in the hilt. The blade tip and initial / front cutting edge
is still sharp. There is no apparent looseness anywhere.

Spadroons are few and far between, and this is a quality version
to be sure. As such the minimum price I would accept for it is £xxx
(too late, now sold). Further pictures available upon request. My
item reference number 142 (37)
