Stamped at the forte to “J W Chudley & Co Birmingham”, a rare cutler, an clothes iron maker amongst other hardware; most likely a contract sword for a local police force.
Rare also in that it has its catch button intact (though slightly bent) and in working order; it is rare to find these swords with the catch buttons present.

The plain 23 inch blade is in good condition and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt / guard in good condition. The black spiral ribbed fishskin grip in good condition too. The leather and brass fittings in a little aged but still good condition. The sword sheathes and draws well. The scabbard locking mechanism works.
Very very nice example at a bargain price of was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZZ77. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1732-79x15x14 (1.340)
