Scabbard engraved “N D Y” “E” “25” for North Devon Yeomanry, E troop, weapon 25. Maker’s mark “VW”, probably Weyersberg of Solingen, with British crown view mark; Crown over “L” (Liege import) over 8.
The 35 3/8 inch blade has some staining and scoffing and a couple of nicks towards the point but it in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The solid steel three bar guard is very good but has a feint hairline crack running up nearly to the sword knot slot. The leather ribbed grip is aged but very good for its age. The heavy steel scabbard is in good condition though aged. The sword sheathes and draws well.
