Unusually “short” 31 inch blade; Royal Artillery sword blades are normally 35 inches. So the officer was either short or disagreed with needing a 35″ blade. Etched to retailer W.W. White, Frances St, Woolwich at ricasso / forte. And also the owner’s / officer’s initials are etched to the blade; looks like “J C F”; researchers, come on down!
The 31 inch etched blade is in good condition save for a couple of nicks around the tip. Blade firm in hilt / grip. The hilt with tarnish and patina rust patches but is otherwise good. The fishskin grip in very good condition, as are the associated twisted grip wire bindings. Leather field service scabbard in good condition for age. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Very nice example of a rare markings sword and with the owner’s / officer’s initials! Only £400. Please quote item reference ZZ25. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1674-101x15x14 (1.486).
