Etched to cutler “Cuthrie & Valentine, Cork Street, London W” to the forte / ricasso, plus “GRI” for Georgius Rex Imperator, a Royal and Imperial Cypher of British King George V indicating the sword was owned by a British army officer serving in colonial India around World War One.
The 32 1/2 inch etched blade has some areas of inert pitting but is overall good and firm in the hilt. The steel hilt / 3 bar guard has some small tarnish areas but is still good. The black fishskin grip has somewhat faded in colour plus has a few small patches of wear (“moth holes”) but is still overall good, as are the associated silver metal twisted grip wire bindings. The leather field service scabbard has age / wear but is generally good / sound; the sword sheathes and draws well.
