A true admiral’s sword in that most flag officer (admirals included) swords are normallyregular RN swords but with oak leaves to the scabbards’ suspension rings. This sword has oak leaves around the crowned fouled anchor of the guard’s cartouche, so was for an admiral, not just a flag officer.
Etched at the forte to “Walton. Outfitter. Gosport.”. The proof mark bears a “P”, so almost certainly made by Pillin.

The 31 1/8 inch blade has some areas / patches of patina, some pitted, but overall is on good condition, the etching still vivid, the blade firm in the hilt. The brass hilt has lost most of its gilt, but is still good. The spectacular large nodule fishskin grip is a tad grubby but in really good condition; the twisted grip wire bindings also good. The leather and brass oak leaved fittings scabbard is aged, a little faded / worn in places, but good. The folding guard section works and locates onto the securing pin of the scabbard’s top fitting. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Very few true admiral’s swords come onto the market so don’t blink or it will be gone. was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZY85. Further / full sized images available upon request. Tube 1952 106 x 16 (2.359).
