All we know is what is wrttien on the aged card (see photos) that came with this sword from the family (descendants) of Mark Matthews who, it is written, was gifted this sword by Russian Princess Sylvia Obolenski (AKA Sylvia Guirey) to Mark Matthews for escorting her to safety during the Russian Revolution (circa 1919); the sword is from a deceased family member’s belongings and was found under his bed along with the note (the family knew very little and did not want the deceased’s name revealed). NB: It is the Princess Obolensky who reportedly later commited suicide in Paris by jumping off a bridge into the River Seine (not Anna Obolensky Troubetzkoy who jumped off the Eiffel Tower, though they likely were related); Researchers!
The sword itself was likely made in Prussia and is a standard (not official) model of court sword (with double folding guard) used across Europe.

The 24 inch blade is plain but in sound condition, a lttle loose in the hilt. The hilt / guard is aged but good condition, though has been glued internally at some point; the twsited silver metal wire grip is in sound condition. The sword has a little movement which likely would become greater if handled roughly. Scabbard absent.
A frail sword with history; the later of which makes the price of was £? (too late, now sold) a steal. Please quote item reference ZY81. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1953 83 x 15 x 16 (0.513).
