We bought this sword from the Ministry of Defence’s disposal agent. Unfortunately they uneccessarily took it upon themselves to file off the serial number on the spine believing they needed to do that; a remnant can just be seen but the sword is warranted to be a genuine Wilkinson. NB: Wilkinsin Sword stopped fitting proof slugs into their blades in the 1960’s due to the cost; they thereafter simply etched their “W” proof logo, as is the case here.
The 31 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The gilt finished brass hilt / guard is in very good condition; the folding guard section works well. The fishskin grip is a little grubby between the nodes (bumps), but otherwise is very good, so too the twisted grip wire bindings. The brass fittings on leathr scabbard is good, soome light wear / scuffs; the locking pin on the top fitting is absent. The sword sheathes and draws well.
