Marked 11. 15. (November 1915), 7. P. R. (7th Princess Royal’s), 746 (weapon number). This sword may well have been present at the only cavalry action of WW1 when, in 1918, the 7th (Princess Royal’s Dragoon Guards) galloped 10 miles to capture the town of Lessines. The scabbard is a later (made iu 1918) replacement, probably added to a then stores weapon to replace the damaged original after the war
The 34 3/4 inch blade is in good condition and firm in the hilt. The steel bowl guard has been well (professionally/regimentally) cleaned of any war time paint and polished for ceremonial use and is in very good condition (small dent and decommissioning stamp). The composite grip is also very good. The scabbard has traces of former paint but is in good condition none the less.
