Either a shorter katana or longer wakizashi depending on how you measure the blade. The unsigned Edo period blade has been mechanically cleaned with one side more so than the other.
The 22 inch nagasa (cutting edge section) blade with often visible hamon and some ware (small carbon based forging shallow streaks / slight cavities) is good but for the mechanical cleaning marks, firm in the hilt. The furniture (tsuka, tsuba, seppa, etc.) OK, but the ito (braided grip fabric outer layer) has wear and a break that has been “repaired” glued). The saya / scabbard in good condition. The sword sheathes and draws well.
OK, not the best condition nihonto blade, but a great antique Japanese sword deal for just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference ZX27. Further / full sized images available upon request. Triangle 1998 105 x 16 x 16 (1.71).
