Serial number 55884 for mid 1918, this is the former sword of Captain W H Foy, who joined the 8th Battalion Northumberland Fusiliers on 8th April 1916 in Abu El Arur, Egypt as a lieutenant. Gifted in her will to the person we bought it from by Capt. Foy’s daughter, Paddy Foy.
The 32 1/4 inch blade in good condition with etching (including Northumberland Fusiliers’ badge and battle honours) clear, blade firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard with Northumberland Fusiliers’ George and the Dragon badge has some plating loss / small rust patches, but is good. The fishskin grip with associated grip wire bindings are good. Remains of original sword knot. Leather field service scabbard in aged / worn but good condition. The sword sheathes and draws well.
