Normally kris / keris go on our daggers page, but the blade of this Hulu Pekakak / Pekaka Patani is so long (22 inches), it is too big to be a dagger! Probably Sumatran or Javanese with that style of sheath. This keris has a lot of age / wear, and may be older than we have said. It is silver metal, not silver (we have tested); like many Indonesian claims to silver metalwork being silver, it is not (Visitors to Celuk the “silver” work village in Bali, beware). The red eyes may just be glass but do appear to be very small garnet stones.

The 22 inch blade has age related flaking loss one side but is sound and quite firm in the hilt. The silver metalwork hilt is a bit battered and worn etc. but is still good. The sheath has come apart in two but is sound. The embossed silver metalwork on wood sheath is aged but good. The keris sheathes and draws quite well.
A rare old keris at a rare low price, just (was) £450, now £360 . Please quote item reference Z82. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1616-83x15x14 (1.089).
