Etched to retailer “R. C. James & Co Queen Street Portsmouth” to the forte / ricasso. This sword has the name of the officer to the back edge of the blade; unfortunately a small rust pitting patch obscures part of the name. What is visible is “J. J. **TRIM. R. N.”; researchers, do your best!

The 32 inch blade is overall good (traces of original packing grease explain why) but has some rust pitting patches, though most etching is thankfully good. Blade firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard with age is good. The white fishskin grip is a little grubby but good. The twisted grip wire bindings have some wayward lesser strands but are complete. The original sword knot is aged, worn and fraying, but overall sound. The leather and brass fitting scabbard is aged but good. The folding guard section of the hilt / guard works well and locates properly onto the scabbard retaining pin. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Real nice example with original officer owner research potential. Just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference Z73. Further / full size images available upon request. Box 1612 102x15x14 (1.789).
