The blade spine shows it was made in Klingenthal (France) in May 1816. There are three poinçons to the blade’s forte, two are French (Bick, Lobstein), the other (a “P”) e have not seen before. The markings to the scabbard are very Swedish / Finnish in style; the sabre could be a French made Swedish m1791. The sword and especially the scabbard are solid and heavy; most light cavalrymen may struggle with this one. The various markings show it was accepted for use by a country’s military, but the lack of regimental markings and fact the blade has not been sharpened indicates it never left the stores!

The 32 7/8 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard is in good condition. The original leather grip has some age (from being dry) but is very good, as are the twisted grip wire bindings. The heavy steel scabbard has a little light surface rust but is good. The sabre sheathes and draws very well.
