Etched “Manufactured by Wm. Hutton & Sons Ltd Sheffield for Thresher & Glenny London”, Thresher & Glenny are one of the oldest tailors in the world. So this sword was bought by a well-to-do officer.

The 32 1/4 inch blade is well-etched with some wear and old packing grease (probably can be removed) and foam in the hilt. The stainless steel hilt / guard is in good condition, though may be improved with some TLC and a good metal polish. The fishskin grip in good condition, but with some wear patches. The black sword knot for a rifle officer looks original and is in good condition for its age. The Victorian-style scabbard with a steel chape again indicates the sword was owned by a well-to-do officer, is in good condition, but has a break line apparent one side (care should be taken not to put stress on this, maybe some leather glue might be appropriate). The sword sheathes and draws well.
A very attractive WW1 infantry sword at a very attractive price. Yours for was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote reference number Z52. Further / full-size images available upon request. Tube 1569 115×16 (2.732).
