Serial number 23181 for 20th July 1879. 1854 Pattern “Gothic Hilted” sword. Sold to a Captain F.H. Blanchard; hence the brass scabbard (for a senior officer). It appears Captain Blanchard bought this at the end of his military career and then went to the United States to start a business with his brother.
The 32 5/8 inch period sharpened dress weight blade is worn and aged a little but good and firm in the grip and hilt. The brass gothic hilt with some age / tarnish / distortion (normal for age and metal) is nonetheless good. The black fishskin grip is good but the twisted grip wire bindings have lost a few strands. Remains of leather sword knot. Full blade width brass scabbard with some dings. The sword sheathes and draws loosely.
