Made by Hawksworth of Sheffield. Etched on the blade to W. H. Sherwin. William Hurst (Bill) Sherwin served with the 12th Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) throughout World War One and was promoted to Captain. He died on the 20th December 1952.

The 32 1/8 inch blade is in aged but good condition, etching still clear, some patina spots /patches, firm in the hilt. The plated steel hilt has age (plating not so great now, has speckling and a couple of rust patches) but is sound. The grip and associated twisted grip wire bindings are good. The leather field service scabbard with age, the chape end a little skewed, plenty of wear, is nonetheless sound. The sword sheathes and draws well.
Nice to get a WW1 sword with provenance for just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference Z33. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1556-golf (1.838).
