Marked “Woolley Sargant & Fairfax” (sword makers to the EIC) to the blade, dating this dirk from 1826 to 1834. The markings to the scabbard imply artillery, so perhaps for a Bombay Marine Artillery officer / gunner.

The 17 1/2 inch blade is in cleaned but good condition and firm in the hilt. The brass hilt with lion’s face pommel in good order. The bone grip with age cracks is still good. The leather with brass fittings scabbard is aged but sound and a rare thing (most of these dirks have lost their scabbards). The dirk sheathes and draws well.
Great item, quality maker marked and with its original scabbard. Truly low price, just was £? (too late, now sold). Please quote item reference Z30. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1552-82x15x15 (1.198).
