Very unusual An XI in that the blade was made in Solingen in 1833 and has a Bick inspection stamp / poinçon style for 4th March 1825 through to 25th July 1834 inside the hilt, so this sword was in service long after the An XI was officially superseded. The hilt though, does have very worn (too worn to photograph) poinçons inside the main bar of the guard where they were once put in Napoleonic times, which the An XI model dates to. So the hilt / guard is Napoleonic and it is anyone’s guess as to why it had a replacement blade in 1833 long after the sword pattern was officially replaced.

The 34 3/8 inch blade is aged but in good condition bar a couple of nicks and firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard good, as are the grip and grip olives.
We’d love to hear any substantive explanation / the history of this saber. In any event, a great buy at £600. Please quote item reference Z14. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1539-golf (1.176).
