Sword marked to Edward Smith of 5 Boyle Street London, the WW1 era supplier of Scots Guards swords. Serial number 15016. The sword has been professionally replated (so the etching is feint) and the grip replaced; almost certainly by Crisp and Son. The scabbard is correct but later and with NATO part number! Battle honours to and including South Africa plus George V cypher means this sword was made between 1910 and 1919 (as no WW1 battle honours yet on blade). The original owner’s / officer’s initials are just visible, “W T L”, so it should be possible to research that officer.
NB The white you see in the hilt channels is not visible in normal light; it is the flash picking up the remnants of metal finisher; this can be removed with care with a toothbrush and oil.

The 32 inch blade is in very good condition and firm in the hilt. The hilt / guard also very good. The faux fishskin grip and associated twisted grip wire bindings are also very good. The plated steel scabbard, yet again, very good. The sword sheathes and draws very well.
Parade ground condition! Scots Guards! Original officer’s initials! Just was £? (too late, now sold)! Please quote item reference Y89. Further / full sized images available upon request. Box 1499-117x15x14 (2.013).
